MEXICO-US: Spelling out the National Guard's border mission

General Steven Blum, federal chief of the National Guard, reported last week that the number of troops deployed along the border will reach 6,000 by 1 August. He and Paul McHale, Assistant Secretary of Defence for Homeland Defence, were at pains to dispel any notion that the National Guard will be used in law-enforcement tasks.
